âSo you havenât been able to have an evening alone with Oliver since your mother came into town?â Addison asked, shocked as she looked between Bridget and Nina.
Nina shook her head ruefully. âNope. Itâs just been me and Mom every eveningâ¦â
Addison blew out a breath, her eyes widening comically. âIâm sure thatâs been⦠delightfulâ¦â
The three dissolved into laughter, Nina raising her hand to her mouth to stifle hers.
âCome on, why would you want to hang out with your boyfriend when you can play Scrabble with your mother?â Bridget teased, and the three laughed even harder.
Just then, Melissa drifted by, pausing to look at them disapprovingly. âAnd what is so funny?â
The three sobered instantly, although Addison had to work to keep a straight face. âJust telling jokes over here, thatâs all.â
âI see.â Melissa sniffed, then continued on her way.
Addison, Nina, and Bridget looked at each other, all on the verge of laughter once more. Addison reveled in the moment, pleased to see that a friendship seemed to be forming between Bridget and Nina. Things had once been rocky there, as Nina had tried to date Timothy, who Bridget also liked, but things had finally gotten worked out and everyone was with the person they were supposed to be with. It was good to see Bridget fitting in with the group. For a long time, she had been the odd one out, only there because of Elise, but everyone was starting to warm up to her, and it made Addison happy.
The bell at the front door jingled just then and Nadia and Hector walked in. Nadia, Addison noticed, was looking resplendent in her floral printed dress and there was a smile on her face that could only be the product of spending time with Hector, something that also made Addison very happy. She excused herself from Nina and Bridget and hurried over to Nadia and Hector.
âNadia! Hector! Glad you could make it!â
âThanks for the invitation,â Nadia replied. âIt looks absolutely beautiful in here, by the way. The bistro has been completely transformed.â
âThat was the idea,â Addison said modestly. âThank you.â She turned to Hector. âNice to see you, as always.â
âGood to be here. Anything to spend some time with Nadia,â Hector teased lightly, and Nadiaâs cheeks turned a rosy hue.
âHe brought me flowers,â she blurted out, looking at Addison. âA bouquet of carnations.â
Addison looked at Hector with approval. âThatâs a very classy move. Very gentlemanly. I have to give you kudos.â
âWell, Nadia deserves the best,â he said simply. He turned to Nadia. âDo you want me to get some food for us?â
âThat would be great, thank you,â Nadia replied, her eyes following him as he left to procure some plates of the delicious wraps and other hors d'oeuvres.
Addison smiled at Nadia, her hazel eyes warm. âIt seems like things with Hector are going well,â she commented.
Nadiaâs cheeks flushed even more, but she couldnât hide her smile. âThey are,â she agreed. âI really like him.â
âWhatâs not to like? The two of you are a great pair.
